Judy Garland – Somewhere Over The Rainbow

“Over the Rainbow” (commonly known as “Somewhere over the Rainbow”) is an all-time classic ballad composed by Harold Arlen with lyrics written by Yip Harburg. It was originally composed for the classic 1939 movie “The Wizard of Oz,” and performed by actress Judy Garland, known to many as Dorothy Gale.

The tune won the Academy Award for Best Original Song, quickly becoming one of the most recognizable compositions of the film industry. The song’s huge popularity and success made it one of the most enduring standards of the 20th century.

On the “Songs of the Century” list – compiled by the Recording Industry Association of America and the National Endowment for the Arts – “Over the Rainbow” took no less that the first place. The American Film Institute named it as the greatest movie song of all time on the list of “AFI’s 100 Years… 100 Songs.”
