i just came across this page today while chord searching on the internet. needless to say, i'm happy that i found it. its a wonderful resource to have.

i'm a complete beginner and i've only been "playing" for a few months. i will be getting lessons later this summer, i'm excited about that.

i have a yamaha f310. best i can tell it's a nice beginner guitar, but mostly it feels comfortable to play and has a nice sound, so thats why i got it.

my fingertips hurt like hell too. i have callouses built up (more so than the first week i practiced anyway), but i think they still need to get harder, and/or thicker maybe? it seems to hurt below the callous now when i practice for an hour or more, is that normal? will those nerves die off or become desensitized eventually?

i been looking at about.com (under hobbies->guitar) and guitarforbeginners.com as well for some basic easy lessons.
anyone familiar with any good sites they recommend to beginners for lessons or just good reading?

anyway, that's more blabbering that i planned on, so i'll stop. once again, great site admin!

The pain will go away eventually depending on how often you play.  I always found it best to really punish them for a day or two then let them rest and have time to heal the busted vessels below your skin.  Then do it all over again.  I play a lot and after playing a 2 hour set it have to take a break.  Why do you think bands take breaks during shows....we get tired too.
